His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, and the presidential entourage visited the Huawei Research Centre of Shanghai, Shanghai, China, on 31st July 2023 the mega leading 5.5 G driven ICT Technology and other top-notch emerging technologies.
On Monday morning, 31st July 2023, during his visit, Huawei ICT Solutions impressed His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye. To this end, he expressed his interest in the ICT solutions proposed by HUAWEI. He said that the ICT solutions proposed by HUAWEI can help the country develop better with Digital Transformation. He also stated that the country plans to become a developing country by 2040 and stand among developed nations by 2060. As for him, to reach this target of becoming a developing and developed by 2040 and 2060 respectively, the key to achieving this ambitious yet attainable goal remains digital transformation.
“National development and digital transformation are closely intertwined. We have ongoing projects focused on transforming our national development and improving financial management through digital means. One of our goals is to encourage the use of digital banking, including mobile banking, among Burundians. To enhance the efficiency of our national employees, we are seeking digital solutions, and we believe Huawei can provide the right ones. Our aim is to optimize the utilization of the national budget by utilizing the best tools available.
By 2040, we envision Burundi becoming an emerging country, and by 2060, a developed country. I have previously been acquainted with Huawei and have had contact with their team in Burundi. It is pleasing to see that Huawei employs talented individuals from Burundi. I believe Huawei has excelled in various aspects, and I hope its solutions will align with Burundi’s requirements for digital transformation,” expressed H.E Evariste Ndayishimiye.
In his statement, Jeff Wang, the Senior Vice President and President of Huawei’s Public Affairs and Communication Department, emphasized the significance of the ICT revolution in driving a new era of growth. He expressed Huawei’s dedication to ensuring that digital connectivity reaches every individual, household, and organization, thereby creating an intelligent world. Wang also highlighted the company’s commitment to collaborating with the government, partners, and customers in Burundi. By working together, they can exchange valuable insights and promote industry upgrading as well as digital transformation within the country.
He further stated that Huawei offers various solutions to assist Burundi in its digital transformation journey, such as Digital Power, among others. Mr. Jeff Wang also provided an example of how the People’s Republic of China prioritized road development in the 1980s, followed by providing telephones to its citizens in the 1990s, and eventually placing significant emphasis on technology advancements from 2000 onwards. This illustrates the equal importance of both infrastructure and communication developments for a nation.
